Detour Studio is a map editor for walking, cycling and shared-path disruption maps. It helps teams make clear public detour maps faster, cheaper and with less specialist GIS or design work.
The important bit: routes are traced from real coordinates. One map can become a print-ready graphic, a web map, or structured data that other platforms can use.
We're also looking for local bicycle advocacy groups to help publish live detours through AusDetours and surface them in the AusBUG app, so riders can see closures and safe alternatives where they already plan trips.

Closure and detour on the main map
Council works · short-term closure
Asphalt renewal works closed the trail through Royal Park for five weeks. The studio map defines the closed section and the signed detour via Manningham St, Oak St and Poplar Rd — and because the map is coordinate-backed, the same closure appears live in the VicBUG app with dates, work details and the printable map attached.
Detour past the works on Lower Plenty Rd
Major project · single site
North East Link works closed the path between Lower Plenty Rd and McCrae Rd until late 2026. One traced map produced the print-ready graphic — works area, legend, callouts — and the in-app closure card riders tap to see the local street detour.
Five staged closures along the corridor

Sections between Doncaster Rd and Tram Rd close in stages into 2027. Each stage is its own studio map, and together they drive the app's corridor view — riders see every closure marker from Box Hill North to Donvale and tap through for details, dates and detours.
Advanced · street-precinct works
Footpath works around a busy shopping strip need more than a closed line and a detour line. This map layers six route and marker classes — pedestrian detour, closed footpath, a signed path to the shops, temporary traffic lights, and open versus closed bus stops — plus callouts for the relocated school crossing and key destinations, all in one custom legend.

A station-precinct works map on an aerial base. Hatched polygons mark the works and laydown areas, the green line is project heavy-vehicle access, and per-marker icons carry the pedestrian closure along Ferris Rd while the dashed detour routes people around Coach St to Cobblebank Station. The same coordinate-backed approach, applied to construction comms.

The same coordinates that drive the on-screen map are exposed as GeoJSON, with stable IDs, route classes, and metadata. Hook it into a routing engine, a dashboard, or your agency's third-party platforms.
